A Better HW Series Experience

To provide an even better user experience, the HW Series has been redesigned to offer greater installation flexibility, simplified product selection, and enhanced safety. These improvements introduce universal components that reduce complexity and make it easier to configure and maintain HW Series switches, while preserving the same trusted performance, certifications, pricing, and ordering process for assembled products.

This page will walk you through the key updates, customer benefits, compatibility information, and everything you need to know about the transition.

KEY FEATURES

New Full Voltage Adapter Design

The new full voltage adapter can handle rated operating
voltages of 100 to 240V, enabling the use of high-voltage LEDs.

The design was revised with increased consideration for safety, and now
has the same IP20 protection rating as IDEC contact blocks.

The range of wire sizes that can be used with the adapter has also
increased, enhancing overall useability.

HMI-X

Integrated Power Unit

The transformer unit and DC-DC converter are integrated with the full voltage adapter fitted with the high-voltage LED.

Note: the maximum compatible voltage is 240V AC.

Universal operator

FLEXIBLE

Universal Operators Simplify Product Selection

The redesigned HW Series uses a single operator for both screw and push-in connecting units. By replacing only the rear connecting unit when changing
terminal types, customers can simplify inventory management, reduce
replacement parts, and make future modifications more easily.

SAFETY

Added Protection Against Electric Shock

Metal parts of the adapter are coated in resin, as a measure to prevent electric shocks and increase overall safety.

Connecting Units

Easier to Use

One Connecting Unit for More Applications

The redesigned connecting unit is now compatible with both non-illuminated and illuminated HW Series switches, eliminating the need for separate versions.

This universal design simplifies product selection, reduces inventory requirements, and makes specifying replacement parts easier. An integrated one-piece locking mechanism also streamlines installation by reducing the number of components during assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is IDEC updating the HW Series design?

The updated design standardizes key components across the HW Series to simplify installation, improve flexibility, and reduce inventory complexity. These improvements also enhance user safety while maintaining the same product functionality and performance.

Will the ordering part numbers change?
The ordering part numbers for complete assembled switches remain unchanged.

However, some individual component (BOM) part numbers have been updated to reflect the new design. Please refer to the affected part number list for details.

Can I mix new operators with existing connecting units?

No.

The updated operators and connecting units are designed to be used together. New operators are not compatible with previous-generation connecting units, and previous-generation operators are not compatible with the new connecting units.

Will there be any changes to product performance or certifications?
No.

There are no changes to:

  • Product functionality
  • Electrical ratings
  • Agency certifications
  • Pricing (assembled switches)

The design updates only affect the mechanical construction and installation features.

Why am I receiving products with different appearances?
Beginning June 15, 2026, IDEC started shipping products with the updated design.

During the transition period, shipments may contain either the previous or updated design depending on inventory availability. Both versions are genuine IDEC products and meet the same quality, performance, and certification requirements.

Do I need to update my machine design or panel layout?
In most applications, no.

The updated HW Series is designed to maintain the same product functionality and mounting dimensions. However, if replacement components are being ordered separately, please ensure that operators and connecting units are from the same design generation.

Where can I find additional information?
Additional resources, including updated catalogs, instructional videos, and product documentation, will be made available as they are released.

If you have questions regarding product selection, ordering, or technical compatibility, please contact your IDEC representative or IDEC Technical Support.

Can I convert an existing screw terminal switch to a push-in switch (or vice versa)?
Yes.
With the updated design, the operator is compatible with both screw terminal and push-in connecting units. Users can convert between terminal styles by replacing only the rear connecting unit rather than the entire switch assembly.
